A Multi-Platform Production
For thousands of years, traditional Inuit sports have been vital for surviving the unforgiving Arctic. Acrobatic and explosive, these ancestral games evolved to strengthen mind, body and spirit within the community. Following four modern Inuit athletes reveals their unique relationship to the games as they compete across the North. As unprecedented change sweeps across their traditional lands, their stories illuminate the importance of the games today.

OVERVIEW:
Exploring an ancient model of health through the lifestyles of Alaska Native peoples as they continue to sustain the ways of their ancestors while adapting to the accelerating globalizing world. We discover the wisdom of their ancestors and the healthy choices they still represent. Their traditions inspired from a deep respect for the elements, plants and animals from which they sustain, the games of the north serve to strengthen body, mind and spirit, and are vital for survival in the remote and unforgiving Arctic landscapes.
Drum, song and dance share ancestral stories. The Films musical score will infuse traditional, modern and hip-hop musicians.

PROJECT BACKGROUND:
The film's first rough-cut was warmly received by audiences during a test screening at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian over the summer and has been given a PBS broadcast window in March 2009.
Filmed over a 5-year period entirely in high definition video, Games of the North began as a feature length film and has grown substantially to include a 1-hour film for PBS and international broadcast, a comprehensive website and an Educational Multimedia Curriculum.
Receiving tremendous support and taking on a life of its own is the projects EDUCATIONAL MULTIMEDIA CURRICULUM for schools and military reintegration programs.
The ancestral sports the film promotes reflect a definitive set of values for cooperation, personal development, non-violence and conflict management.
